Beth Delaney

First Assistant Secretary, Humanitarian Division - DFAT

Professional Bio

Ms Beth Delaney is First Assistant Secretary, Humanitarian Division with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and is DFAT’s Preventing Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment Champion.  Most recently as FAS Program Enabling Division, she led a team advising the department on effective policy, program management and delivery – from the design of development programs, their procurement, performance and risk to developing and supporting departmental frameworks for appropriate safeguard management and external fraud control.
 
Ms Delaney has worked for the Australian Government since 1996 in a range of policy and corporate positions. This has included leading the Pacific Regional Economic and Development Economics, Private Sector and Agricultural Branches.  Ms Delaney has been a trusted adviser to the Australian Foreign Minister (2002-2003), the Executive Director at the World Bank (2010-2013) and Australia’s Director at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (2016-2017). She has held overseas assignments in Beijing, Bougainville and Washington DC.
 
Ms Delaney holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons.) from the Australian National University (ANU), an Executive Masters of Public Administration (ANU/Australian New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG)) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
