Professional Bio

Human rights activist
Jasbant Kaur aka Jasmine Kaur is a human rights, Gender, and social inclusion activist. Jasmine
works with various civil society organizations to bring about positive changes.
Currently, Jasmine is undertaking a Master in Art in Social policy and Administration with The
The University of the South Pacific, where her thesis is focused on Mental health policy in Fiji. She also
Has a post-graduate diploma in Policy and Administration and a post-graduate Certificate in Gender
Studies. Apart from her academic background, she has over 10 years of experience working with
grassroots communities within a diverse range of sectors to push Gender Equality and Social
Inclusion of minority communities.
Jasmine Is passionate about Sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy, Mental
health, and gender equity in all spheres of work.
Jasmine has attended various workshops and done leadership certifications as well. She is a proud
graduate of the Emerging leader's Forum (ELF) and is an active member of the ELF alumni. She is
also a former board member of ILGA Oceania. Jasmine has also been part of the Global Citizens
initiative and attended the leadership training program in Massachusetts, USA.
Jasmine has never been known to shy away from sensitive topics and has always been vocal about
the rights of young girls and women and LGBTIQ people in local, National, Regional, and
international spaces.
Currently, Jasmine lives in Suva, Fiji Islands, and was the Founder of Oceania Pride. This organization
aspires to advocate for and implement policy and legislative changes on equal rights for the lesbian,
gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. She also wishes to do the same in all pacific island
countries. She is hoping one day to set up Oceania Pride as a non-government organization and is
currently working hard on achieving this.
What makes Jasmine stand out as a leader is her commitment to equal rights for all, She believes
development work should incorporate equity principles over equality.
She respects the diversity in thoughts of individuals and the spectrum of issues people advocate for
around the pacific. She tries to stand up in solidarity with all these activists and change-makers.
Apart from her various affiliations in Fiji and the region, Jasmine is one of the Asia Pacific youth
ambassadors from 2012 to 2013.
Jasmine loves writing poetry, and blogs, and catching up with family and friends.
